Radiation: Region 10930 produced a major X3.4/4B proton flare peaking at 02:40 UTC on December 13. This is a hard proton event and a strong response was seen in GOES and ACE protons shortly thereafter. Currently the GOES surrogate for P41GM is about a factor of 2 above the RADMON limit and declining steadily. It is likely that E1300 is above the trip limit and will remain so until the RADMON enable today at 347:22:33:53. No LASCO imagery covering the time of the flare is available, but it is highly likely that a CME is en route. By good fortune the mission schedule puts Chandra in a good position to respond to this event. If SCS107 runs 10 minutes after RADMON enable then Chandra will be left at a cool attitude, with HETG inserted and with no violations for at least a couple of days. Comm is now scheduled to cover the time of RADMON enable to allow realtime monitoring of the expected SCS107 run.
