SOT Shift Report 2006-12-14 L2702 Duration: 14 Dec 2006 08:30 EST - 14 Dec 2006 09:30 EST 14 Dec 2006 13:30 GMT - 14 Dec 2006 14:30 GMT SOT Lead: Tom Aldcroft ======================================== Plan ---- Review two sets of load products today: A. Science resumption (DEC1406 for uplink at 21:25 pass) B. Science resumption but starting with a non-science load segment (uplink at the 349:03:45:00 pass tonight). The latter option will be necessary to avoid an Earth violation (350:00:50) if radiation is unacceptable for Plan A science resumption. Uplink of subsequent load segements will be contingent on radiation. Events ------ No comm this shift. Notes from 9am meeting and radiation telecon -------------------------------------------- Ops: In Radiation Zone NO Current SI ACIS-S Grating HETG Observation ID 06432 Target YY Gem Altitude 117.5 kkm Asc Radmon Disable 349/19:19z Next Radiation Zone 349/22:06z to 350/10:25z MP: - DEC1406A products out for review at 11am today - DEC1506A (?) products expected out for review later Eng: - Yesterday's SCS107 run was nominal except for an unanticipated reboot of the ACIS BEP. - The anomaly simulation Tuesday and Wednesday was successful - Two items on the FDB agenda today SOT: - The reboot of the ACIS BEP was quickly diagnosed by the ACIS team. When SCS107 terminated the science run this sent commands to power down the FEPs and video boards. At this time ACIS was in the middle of a bias computation and the BEP was expecting data from those units but didn't get it. This caused a BEP reboot which is the expected behavior in this circumstance. - ACIS will prepare a CAP to reload the ACIS flight s/w patches, warm boot the BEP and restart DEA housekeeping. CAP review at 1pm. Radiation: - No further flaring activity from region 930 has been seen since the X3 flare. - It appears that the CME shock front arrived as of ~14:00UTC today, with a clearly visible spike in the ACE proton rates and a very strong jump in the wind velocity. - The EPHIN P4GM (or the GOES surrogate) are presently about a factor of 5 above the RADMON trip limit. E1300 and P41GM were well below the limits as of 348:13:12. - A go/no-go radiation telecon is planned for the start of the 21:25 pass (4:25 PM Eastern), assuming DEC1406 loads are approved.
