ChaSeR

ChaSeR, the CDA Search and Retrieval tool is implemented as a platform-independent Java application. Download and installation is made easy and the application will notify users when updates are available. The only caveat concerns older window managers such as twm and tvtwm which are not fully X11-compliant and not supported anymore.

ChaSeR allows users to browse the observation catalog with a variety of search criteria, to display preview images, and to stage for download any combination of public data products. In addition, it allows authorized download of proprietary data products. In due course it will replace the current procedure for proprietary data distribution via the ftp site.

WebChaSeR is a web-based version that allows similar searching capabilties and in addition access to a various pieces of information, such as images and bibliographic links. Data retrieval, however, is restricted to primary and/or secondary data products.

Chandra Data Archive Status

Download statistics may be accessed here.

Proprietary data are distributed through WebChaSeR and on physical media. Data products generated by Automated Processing first have to go through Verification and Validation. Principal Investigators will then be notified of the availability of their data; at the same time a copy is made on physical medium that is mailed to the PI. Products generated by Custom Processing also go through V&V but are only distributed through the ftp site. In both cases the tar file contains a Standard Data Distribution.

The non-proprietary data products in the Archive are open for public perusal. In addition to calibration observations, certain non-CAL observations are publicly available, either because the PI waived proprietary rights or because the proprietary period has expired. A listing may be found here. The data may be obtained through WebChaSeR.

The Chandra Caldb is available for download from the CDA ftp site (release notes).

CXCDS Automated Processing Status

The following webpages may be browsed for status information:
  • For checking on the status of individual or classes of observation, go to the CXCDS Status Tool. This provides the most complete information.
  • For checking on processing and data issues, see the Issue Tables.
Other locations that contain some status information, though possibly less up-to-date:
  • ChaSeR
    • Once an observation is scheduled, its status changes to Scheduled.
    • Once the V&V has approved distribution and products have been ingested into the archive, its status will change to Observed or Partially Observed.
    • The status changes to Archived when the data are publicly released.
  • Data Caveats
    See the Caveats page.
