Downloading CIAO 4.1

(12 Jun 2009) Download issue on Mac OS X 10.5.7 Intel

Multiple users have reported that they are unable to download the CIAO tarfiles on Mac OS X Intel 10.5.7 from the Safari browser (v3.2.3 and v4). If you experience a problem, please try an alternate browser, e.g. Mozilla Firefox, and contact Helpdesk if you need further assistance.

Latest CIAO Update: 20 April 2009

CIAO 4.1 is available for:

• Solaris 8

• Solaris 10
  CIAO 4.1.2 is a full software installation (CIAO 4.1 plus the 4.1.1 and 4.1.2 patches) for the Solaris 10 platform.

• Fedora Core 4
  Works well on Fedora Core 6 and many other newer Linux platforms; see the unsupported platforms information.

• Fedora Core 8

• Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5 Intel
  Compatible with 10.4 (Tiger) and 10.5 (Leopard).
  CIAO is not officially supported on 10.6 (Snow Leopard), but there is a workaround for installing the software in the Unsupported Platforms section of the Platforms page.

• Mac OS X 10.4 PowerPC
  Compatible with 10.4 (Tiger).

The Platform Support page has more information on the officially supported CIAO platforms, as well as advice on using unsupported platforms. Note that in order to run CIAO on a 64-bit machine, regardless of operating system, the basic 32-bit libraries must be installed.

To use CIAO, you must also have the Calibration Database (CALDB) installed on your system:

• CALDB 4.1.4 (latest update: 17 September 2009)

CALDB 4.1.0 or higher is required for the proper operation of CIAO 4.1. It is recommended you upgrade to have the newest calibration available.

Browser Issues

There are known problems with the CIAO download pages in Internet Explorer on the Mac OS X platform. We recommend that you choose an alternate browser - such as Safari (distributed with Mac OS X) or Mozilla Firefox - to avoid download problems.

Binary Installation

To install CIAO 4.1 you need the following packages, which are available from the platform-specific download pages or on CD via the Helpdesk:

• Binaries: named ciao-4.1-bin-<component>-<OS name>.tar.gz
• CALDB
• Contributed science scripts

Source Build

Users who are interested in building the CIAO software from source should download the source code packages, named ciao-4.1-src-<component>.tar.gz. More information is available from the 4.1 INSTALL_SOURCE file and the bug page on known source build issues.
