Title: Deep X-ray view of the bare nucleus Seyfert Ark120: unveiling the core of AGN

PI Name: Delphine Porquet

We propose here a deep XMM-Newton observation (4 x 120 ks) of Ark120 -- and a joint 120ks Chandra/HETG observation to measure the narrow FeK line core -- to establish the origin of the soft excess (Comptonization or blurred reflection), its accretion disk properties and its black hole spin. If the soft excess originates from blurred reflection off an ionized accretion disk, we will be able to clearly detect and resolve, for the first time unambiguously in a BLS1 AGN, broad soft X-ray lines (e.g., OVII, OVIII and FeL). It will be the first very high S/N X-ray observation of a bare AGN.
