Important News on Chandra Observations: Early Scheduling and New Default Target Offsets ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Item 1. Important News on Chandra Observations: Early Scheduling and New Default Target Offsets =============================================== If you have questions/concerns about either of these items, please contact your assigned User Interface person with a copy to cus@cfa.harvard.edu or the CXC Helpdesk. *** EARLY SCHEDULING OF CYCLE 7 Due to the increased constraints on scheduling observations on Chandra, we will be scheduling Cycle 7 targets to be observed along with Cycle 6 effective imediately. We expect the completion of Cycle 6 targets to occur in February 2006. Please note that we are unable to provide funding for the early Cycle 7 observations until the Cost proposal review is completed in November. For full details of the scheduling process see: http://cxc.harvard.edu/cdo/observation_scheduling.html#AO7 *** NEW DEFAULT TARGET OFFSETS for ACIS-S The CXC recommends a revised target pointing offset for ACIS-S observations to place the target closest to the aimpoint while avoiding a node boundary. The default Y-offset value for ACIS-S target is henceforth changed from -0.33 arcmin (-20 arcsec) to +0.17 arcmin (+10 arcsec). The new recommended +0.17 arcmin Y-offset will be used for all approved ACIS-S targets that are unobserved as of Oct 9, 2005 and that either explicitly or by default had a Y-offset value of -0.33 arcmin in their proposals. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- This Electronic Bulletin is used for the dissemination of important announcements and information about the Chandra X-Ray Observatory to members of the community.
