Bugs: prism

A list of bugs fixed in CIAO 4.2 is available.

Caveats

  1. Rows may appear crowded. (15 Dec 2009)
    (Mac OS X 10.5 64-bit only)

  2. Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to find default local directory monitor type
Gtk-WARNING **: GtkSpinButton: setting an adjustment with non-zero page size is deprecated
Gtk-WARNING **: Could not find the icon 'inode-socket'. The 'hicolor' theme was not found either, perhaps you need to install it. (15 Dec 2009)
    (Mac OS X 10.5 64-bit only)

Bugs

  1. Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "gnomebreakpad": libgnomebreakpad.so:
cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    OR
    Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module": libcanberra-gtk-module.so:
cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory (15 Dec 2009)

  2. Histograms may fail to plot (15 Dec 2009)

  3. Prism hangs with bad file selection (15 Dec 2009)

  4. Segmentation fault when trying to launch prism (18 Feb 2010)

    These warnings may be ignored.

Bugs

  1. Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "gnomebreakpad": libgnomebreakpad.so:

    OR
    Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module": libcanberra-gtk-module.so:
cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory (15 Dec 2009)

The warning is cosmetic and doesn't impact how prism works.

    Workaround:

The gnome session sets GTK_MODULES to load some debugging tools. If the user simply unsets the GTK_MODULES environment variable, then the warning messages will disappear:

    unsetenv GTK_MODULES

  2. Histograms may fail to plot (15 Dec 2009)

Quick Histogram sometimes fails to plot, displaying an error message, such as:

Tue 08-Jul 14:29:25 Failed to add histogram of /data/directory/src.arf to chips server ''

  3. Prism hangs with bad file selection (15 Dec 2009)

Trying to load an incompatible data file in prism causes the GUI to hang, requiring killing prism to exit.

  4. Segmentation fault when trying to launch prism (18 Feb 2010)

The prism GUI will segmentation fault if there are incompatible .fontconfig files cached on the user's system. Try renaming (or removing) the .fontconfig cache:

    unix% mv ~/.fontconfig ~/.fontconfig_orig

If this does not fix the prism problem, contact Helpdesk.

Bugs fixed in CIAO 4.2

The following is a list of bugs that were fixed in the CIAO 4.2 software release.

  1. Making a histogram after opening prism with a column-filtered file (23 Feb 2009)

If a file is opened in prism with a column filter, e.g.

    unix% prism "evt.fits[cols time,sky,energy]"

and then the histogram option is used, prism does not clear the original column filter first. This may cause the wrong column (i.e. not the one selected) to be used in generating the histogram.

    Workaround:

Load the file into prism without using a column filter.

  2. Plots fail with line thickness of 0.5 (16 Mar 2009)

Using the Interactive Plot or Histogram window to set any of the line thicknessed to 0.5 breaks plotting from Prism. The issue is due to an incorrect formatting in how the string is passed from Prism to ChIPS.

    Workaround:

Set the thickness to 1.0 or higher.
