There was a large X-5 flare from the Sun. Large Hard proton (1073-1802 KeV) fluxes from the Sun. Kp reached 9. Soft proton (130-214KeV) rate reached 900,000 particles per cm2-s-ster-MeV Jul 12, 2000 Shift Report ------------------------- Proton level exceeded orbital fluence trigger of 1.0E+9 yesterday morning. Decided to take no action as we were going into the rad zone soon and there was no COMM pass between the time of exceedance and the next COMM. Radiation levels low now but space weather predictions are for higher activity in the next several days. Jul 13, 2000 Shift Report ------------------------- Proton dose rate was 1E+9 protons/particles/cm2-ster-MeV/hour at peak of event. Orbital fluence was already over the 2.0E+9 budget so need to safe was clear and decision was made. ACE rates unavailable from about 195:15:00 to 195:18:25. From 18:25 onward, rates were about a factor of two lower than at 15:00, and trending downward. But the next predicted event could be arriving any time.
