Radiation telecon summary (05/16/12) ------------------------------------ At approximately 138:0130 sunspot region 1476 produced an M7 flare with an associated fast hard proton event. Both the E1300 and HRC antico shield rates exceeded the Radmon thresholds and SCS107 ran at 138:02:18:14. The SCS107 run was nominal and ACIS and HRC both reported nominal safing. There is an associated CME visible in the LASCO C2 data, but it is not clear to what extent it will be Earth-directed. Region 1476 is very near the Western limb. Discussion about the radiation situation and replanning will take place following the 9am tagup tomorrow. Radiation tag-up summary (05/17/12) ----------------------------------- The radiation environment has been slowly subsiding. At 9am EDT the EPHIN E1300 and HRC antico shield proxy rates were near theirR adMon trigger thresholds. The CME associated with the flare does not appear to be Earth directed. Observing Resumption Go/No-Go Telecon Result (05/17/12) --------------------------------------------------------- At the 138/1930-2030z comm pass the CAP to check the HRC antico shield rates was executed. The rates were ~1/2 the RadMon trigger threshold. As a result a CAP to collect ACIS CTI data was started. Chandra X-ray Observatory Report (05/18/12) -------------------------------------------- During the last week the observing schedule was interrupted by a high-radiation event that activated the science instrument safing sequence (SCS 107) and stopped observing at 10:18pm EDT on May 16. All spacecraft actions were nominal. An observation of Sgr A* was impacted and the time lost will be rescheduled. Real-time procedures were executed on May 17 to disable SCS-29 (which was enabled during the safing sequence), to verify that the radiation environment as observed by the HRC anticoincidence shield had decreased to an acceptable level, and to start a collection of ACIS CCD charge-transfer inefficiency data. Loads for a replanned schedule were uplinked on May 18 with 93.8ks of science loss.
