From Chandra X-ray Observatory Report ------------------------------------- During the last week the observing schedule was interrupted due to high radiation associated with solar activity. The loads were halted at 10:04pm EDT on Oct 1 through a ground command to execute the SI Safing SCS 107. This ensured that the accumulated radiation dose for ACIS remained below the allowed threshold. All spacecraft actions were nominal. Real-time procedures were executed on Oct 2 to disable SCS-29, which was enabled during the safing sequence, and to update the observation identifier number, to aid CXCDS processing of the interrupted observation. Summary of Radiation Telecon Oct 1, 2013 ---------------------------------------- The ACE P3 flux rose to high levels and the fluence reached a level at which it was deemed necessary to safe ACIS. An early comm was established and CAP 593A run to manually activate SCS 107 to safe the science instruments at 275:02:04z. SCS 107 executed nominally. It is not clear yet when the radiation environment might be safe to resume observing. Summary of Radiation Tag-up Oct 2, 2013 ---------------------------------------- The ACE P3 rate is still high and declining slowly. The rate is forecast to still be high at the start-time of OCT0313A products. Plan B for resumption would use the comm with BOT at 277:03:40z (Thur, 11:40pm EDT) for uplink. The plan is to shuffle targets so as to include GRB130831A after some HRC observations to delay the time that bare ACIS is moved to the observing position.
