MP: MAR0516A loads were approved and uplinked Friday night as the return to science. Mar2116 loads are now in work including several ToOs. Eng: Return to science was achieved on DOY 64 (Shift L6070), SCS-26 Ran on DOY 65 (Shift L6071) due to thermal build-up durng the safemode, and we swapped back to side A control on DOY 66 (Shift L6072). The result of this is a swap to the redundant side equipment. The spacecraft and observing loads still continue to operate. At the time of the comm pass the health check was toggling at the limit. SCS-26 was disabled to prevent repeated commands to the hardware to perform the swap. The telescope temperatures are elevated due to the extended time at normal sun from the Safe Mode and the maneuver profile required for a time-critical target in the observing schedule. SCS-26 was designed to handle the case of a stuck-on heater and not the environment heating seen here. ---------------- DOY 66 (Shift L6072) SWAP back to side A thermal control During the 066:1830-1930z pass a procedure to swap telescope thermal control from the redundant (B) side the the primary (A) side was completed and SCS-26 re-enabled. A review of SSR date showed that no hardware issues contributed to the SCS-26 run. The elevated temperatures that led to the SCS-26 execution were a result of heat trapped in the HRMA region due to the Safe Mode that had not fully dissipated before moving to a forward sun attitude to accommodate a time-critical target in the observing schedule. The dwell at this forward sun attitude significantly slowed the heat dissipation, allowing elevated surrounding temperatures to continue to drive the HRMA_AVE calculated temperature higher at a slow rate. The HRMA_AVE temperature peaked at 71.56F, approximately 0.02F above the trip threshold of 71.54F. A following long tail sun dwell has cooled the HRMA_AVE temperature well below the trip threshold, eliminating any risk of further healthcheck violations for the remainder of the currently running schedule.
