Sept 07: Radiation event Summary --------------------------------- At the 11:30p.m. EDT pass last night 9/6 (250:03:30), it was noted that SCS 107 had run on Chandra. After review of the error logs it was noted that near 250:02:41 the HRC radiation monitor tripped an SCS 107 safing event. This was probably due to the arrival of a CME associated with the M5.5 event 9/4. GOES P13 proton flux level were high enough to predict such an occurrence. ACE P3 rates were unavailable due to a planned outage. Science instruments safed properly. A second CME associate with the X9 event of 9/6 is expected to arrive around 8 am EDT Friday 9/8 (plus/minus 6 hours). At a radiation telecon we decided to target early Saturday for a return to science using the 10 pm EDT Friday (9/8) Comm as the last uplink opportunity. We will update the community on the radiation status at the 9/7 9am standup, Sept 08: Radiation Status Update -------------------------------- The shock from the X9 event appears to have passed overnight. Current ACE P3 rates are about 5000 and descending. HRC rates are below 30 and descending, GOES rates are less than 1/3 of their trip limits and descending. Nominally these are restart conditions. However, there was an additional X class flare plus an M9 flare in the last 24 hours.
