Radiation Discussion Email: Sun, Oct 27, 10:05 AM ------------------------------------------------- >> ACE rates are pretty high and rising. Comm is at 12:30…there are about 18 hours left in the orbit. Does anyone think we should talk about shutting down? >> HRC's consensus is to shutdown at the next comm pass. >> ACIS also agrees with the call to shutdown. Opsgenine Alert: Sun, Oct 27, 12:37 PM -------------------------------------- Chandra realtime telemetry shows SCS107 DISA at 2024:301:16:36:33 UT Check email for info. Radiation Shutdown: Sun, Oct 27, 12:49 PM ----------------------------------------- The team met at 12:15 EDT Oct 27 to discuss the radiation status. the GOES HRC proxy was about 600 with a limit of ~250. ACE P3 rates were about 30,000 and steady. The consensus was to manually run SCS107 at the 12:30 pm comm. At the 12:30 pm comm we found the ACIS TXings code has already triggered. SCS 107 ran AUTONOMOUSLY at 2024:301:09:25:41 UTC. (5:25 am EDT). The SCS 107 run was confirmed to be nominal and both instruments are safe. Mission planners will discuss return to science offline with a probable uplink time of Tuesday afternoon. There will be a tag-up tomorrow (Monday) after the 9 a.m. standup to discuss the current situation. [sot_yellow_alert] ACE_p3: Oct 27, 2024, 11:07 PM ------------------------------------------------- A Radiation violation of P3 (130Kev) has been observed by ACE Observed = 3.6282e+08 (limit = fluence of 3.6e8 particles/cm2-ster-MeV within 2 hours) see http://cxc.harvard.edu/mta/ace.html This message sent to sot_yellow_alert [sot_yellow_alert] Radiation replan telecon summary: Mon, Oct 28, 9:32 AM ------------------------------------------------------------------------- After the 9am meeting, we discussed the current radiation situation and expectations going forward. The current ACE P3 rates are declining steadily but the GOES HRC proxy rates are still very high and fairly flat. Based on the potential slow decline of the HRC proxy rates, we decided to target the 2024:304 0115z comm pass (9:15 PM Tue 29-Oct) for return to science. We will have an online return to science go/no-go discussion at 7pm on Tuesday on the Slack #radiation-status channel. This will be initiated by a message asking the HRC ops and ACIS ops teams for a go (or no-go) to return to science. If at that time, the situation requires wider discussion, the Flight Director will issue a sot_red_alert to have a team discussion on Google Meet. Opsgenie Alert: [sot_yellow_alert] Return to science with OCT3024A is Go: Tue, Oct 29, 9:07 PM ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- At the 9pm status telecon both HRC and ACIS concurred that the radiation levels and trends are good for returning to science with the OCT3024A loads.
