Martin Elvis reviewed plans for ASC analysis software. Priority items for present prototyping are HRC and ACIS readout, the aspect solution, grating data, and generalized tools. Analysis algorithms are not a high priority; most already exist and have been tested.
Mark Birkinshaw discussed details of the aspect system. The principal
requirements are image reconstruction to better than
(0.1 pixels in the star camera CCD) and absolute positions to
uncertainty. The ASC is now generating model
telemetry and camera simulations to test software. The principal
challenge is the need for an efficient aspect-recovery algorithm.
Dave Huenemoerder talked about grating simulation software which must take into account the `squashed X' pattern, several overlapping orders, and possible changes in roll during the observation. Jonathan McDowell described goals in the development of generalized analysis tools.
