Six Years of Science With Chandra
The symposium "Six Years of Science with Chandra" (dedicated to Leon van Speybroeck), will be held at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA from Wednesday, 2 November to Friday, 4 November 2005. The meeting will highlight key science results from the first six years of operation of the Chandra X-ray Observatory with emphasis on recent results. Contributions covering recent results from the XMM-Newton Observatory will also be presented. More details are available at http://cxc.harvard.edu/symposium_2005/. Antonella Fruscione |
The 4th X-ray Astronomy School
The 4th X-ray Astronomy School will be held in Cambridge, MA on August 14-19, 2005. See the web page for more information: http://xrayschool.gsfc.nasa.gov. With the launch of Chandra and XMM-Newton, X-ray astronomy is becoming increasingly important for research into many topics in astrophysics. The X-ray astronomy school is intended for graduate students and recent post-docs who want to understand the intricacies of X-ray astroonomy. The lectures will cover the characteristics of X-ray detectors with particular emphasis on implications for correct interpretation of the data. They will also cover the basic physics related to the X-ray emission processes and a review of science addressed in X-ray astronomy (i.e., clusters of galaxies, AGN, CVs, pulsars, X-ray binaries, supernova remnants, stars).
