Chandra ``Level 3'' Data Products

Stéphane Paltani, Arnold Rots (Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics)

Abstract

With the advance of the Chandra Mission, more and more data will be publicly available. This wealth of data will allow scientists to perform studies that require numerous observations: Population studies, surveys, long-term variability, ... Although such studies can be performed with the existing tools developed by CXC, the required data volume makes them quite tedious in practice.

We present here future developments of the Chandra X-ray Center Automated Processing designed to address this issue. The intent is to extend the existing Chandra data products by so-called ``level 3'' data products. These data products will be in the form of a complex object-oriented catalogue. Parts of this catalogue may be dynamic.

These developments are particularly relevant in the context of the NVO initiatives.
