Analyzing ACIS Data
ACIS Data Analysis
- The Chandra data archive
contains all of the Chandra data which have been
processed by the CXC. Most observations are proprietary for one year, after which
they become public.
- WebChaSeR is an
online tool to search and download Chandra data. See also the CIAO thread showing additional methods for
downloading data from the archive.
- CIAO is the suite of tools for analysis of Chandra data provided by the CXC.
- DS9 can be used
to display Chandra data. DS9 is packaged as a part of CIAO. If you
have CIAO installed you do not need to download DS9.
- FTOOLS is
the suite of tools provided by the HEASARC to analyze X-ray data.
- Standard Data
Processing is the "pipeline" reduction that is
performed on all Chandra science data.
- The CIAO ACIS Data Preparation
Analysis Guide is the first place to start if you have ACIS
data.
- The HRMA
User's Guide gives a detailed description of the Chandra PSF on
and off axis.
- Chandra ASPECT gives
information on absolute astrometry and image reconstruction.
ACIS Data Products
- An Introduction to
Data Products gives a description of the data files in a typical
Chandra observation.
- Data Products Basics gives an introduction to file formats,
software versions and calibration products.
- The Data Products Guide
gives descriptions of all files created by standard processing.
- The Calibration Database
contains the latest calibration files. CALDB files are in standard FITS format and designed for use in CIAO and other analysis programs.
