Bugs: psextract

psextract is not a CIAO tool; it is a script which is available for download from the Scripts page.

A note on specextract: that script should be used for the analysis of extended sources only. It has been determined that the mkwarf tool, which is used for ARF generation by specextract, may not produce accurate results for point sources. If you did any analysis of point sources with mkwarf/specextract, redo it with mkarf/psextract for the most accurate results, e.g. taking bad columns into account.

Bugs

  1. Using psextract/acis_fef_lookup
    (Red Hat 7)

The Red Hat 6 binaries for acis_fef_lookup - one of the tools called by psextract - crash at the end when run on Red Hat 7; note that RH7 is not a supported CIAO platform. The same binaries run fine on Red Hat 6 or Red Hat 8, which are supported.

    Workarounds:

    1. Use the CIAO 2.3 version of acis_fef_lookup instead. The tool's functionality has not changed since that release.

To do so, first download ciao23_acis_fef_lookup. Then, from a window running CIAO (note that this needs to be done by whomever owns the CIAO installation, e.g. your sysadmin):

      unix% rm $ASCDS_CONTRIB/bin/acis_fef_lookup

      unix% mv ciao23_acis_fef_lookup $ASCDS_CONTRIB/bin/acis_fef_lookup

    2. Upgrade the OS to Red Hat 8, which is officially supported for CIAO.
