2nd Chandra/CIAO Workshop: 23-25 April 2001
Chandra X-ray Center, Cambridge, MA (USA)

Following the success of the First Chandra/ CIAO workshop, the Chandra X-Ray Center (CXC) is announcing the second in a series of workshops aimed at helping users to work with the Chandra Interactive Analysis of Observations (CIAO) software.

CIAO is the CXC software developed for the analysis of Chandra data. However, CIAO is non-mission specific (apart from a few instrument tools). More info on CIAO can be found at http://cxc.harvard.edu/ciao/.

The second workshop will be held at the Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge, MA (USA) on April 23-25, 2001 (we have extended it to 3 days with more time for hands-on sessions following suggestions from the first workshop's attendees).

A third workshop is planned for October 2001 and will be announced at a later date. Further workshops will be organized depending on demand.

Details of the program will be sent to registered participants and posted on the CIAO workshop Web site at http://cxc.harvard.edu/ciao/workshop.html

The program will include:

TALKS:

HANDS-ON SESSIONS:

Potential participants may look at all the handouts made available to the participants during the first workshop, together with viewgraphs and scripts from talks and demos, on the workshop Web site Handouts and Presentations page.

We are working to allow the largest possible attendance and we are expecting to accept the first 25 to 30 registered participants (maybe few more). All participants excluded for this second workshop will be automatically enrolled in the following one, unless they indicate otherwise.

There is a small registration fee of $20 (to be paid at the workshop) to cover refreshments.

If you would like to participate please cut the following registration form and send it to cxchelp@head-cfa.harvard.edu.

Some commments from attendees of the first workshop:

"From my point of view, the structure of the talks has been very well organized and most of the talks were very useful in stressing the most important part of the data analysis procedures: I am very satisfied!!!" (Alberto Moretti, Merate Observatory)

"I think the workshop was VERY useful for pointing out caveats, reminding of the complexities of the data and helping with the lingo that will make it much easier to navigate through the help pages on the web." (Dara Norman, Stony Brook)

"I would have liked more days or perhaps half a day more." (Percy Gomez, Carnegie Mellon)
